Langanes and Þórshöfn

Thorshofn (Þórshöfn) is a little fishing village on the North East corner of Iceland. It is on the Langanes peninsula which has some abundant bird life. You can drive onto the peninsula and witness some of the bird life in the summer, but you need a 4x4 to go further out to the cliffs. This section of Iceland offers a off the beaten track experience, the sought after tranquility. The high platau road between Ásbyrgi on the one hand and Raufarhöfn and Þórshöfn on the other we like to call the Milky Way because of the absence of man made lights on this route.

An alternative detour from the ring road is the Snaefellsnes peninsula in west Iceland.
